God's Creating Genius

Genesis 1:1-3 (ESV), 

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light."

     There is something wonderful within this brief description of creation that should inspire awe within humanity to see God as the genius He is.  We cannot doubt that God is behind all of creation.  But what I would like to point out here is that in this brief description of the creating genius, we get a glimpse at His kindness and love for His creation.

     Before God said, "Let there be light," there was a process that was involved.  What I am going to illustrate here is what is know intimately as brooding.  The term used in the ESV translation of the Bible for brooding is hovering.  And interesting to understand about this word is that according to Strong's Concordance this word is defined best by saying to flutter, move or shake.  And in a more detailed expression, it means to brood or fertilize.  In a sense, it is somewhat likened to a hen brooding over her eggs in anticipation to see them hatched.  

     Here we have our first glimpse into the creative genius, that is known as God when we see that God is in excited anticipation, admiring what is about to become when the earth is formed and He gets to marvel over His own creation.  I point this out because it is apparent that we are given the beautiful sight of God's amazing love for His creation, and His patience which definitely includes us.  We are His and He is ours.  It is here shown to us that God is brooding over the face of the deep when the earth was yet without form and void.  Note also that this expression of God's love was when there was yet nothing.  He in excited anticipation awaits the dawning of creation.

     Likewise, we as His creation and the sheep of His pasture, even when we were without form and void have the assurance that God is awaiting the dawning of our lives to burst through the darkness.  He is preparing our hearts to Hail Jesus as King.  God has indeed been working in all of humanity to be known and for us to know Him.  He awaits the day to speak light into our shattered and broken lives in hopes that we would receive the truth and step into the genius plan that He has for us from before the beginning of the world.  Even while God was yet hovering over the face of the deep in the beginning of creation He had a plan for each of us to follow.  

     Let us then, take this time and opportunity we have been afforded to give glory to the One who while yet saw our darkness was preparing for us a glorious and creative plan to follow through on through His Son Jesus Christ.  Even as I write this out, I envision the Father of all creation hovering over me as He did in the beginning of creation in excited anticipation for what He has yet to unfold in my life.  How about you?  Do you sense and envision God's creative brooding, hovering over you as He ministers His Word and light into your heart?

     Lord, we are truly amazed at You.  You are so perfect in all of Your ways and nothing we can do can distract that, yet we can so easily become distracted by the world around us.  Thank You, that no matter where we are in life that You are literally brooding over us with Your magnificent and creative power.  Open our eyes to behold You as You speak light into every heart and soul, in Jesus name.
